Weekly Discussion Question
When I was preparing to enter college, I remember laying awake at night thinking, "What do I want to do with my life?" So I began thinking about all the people who had made a difference in my life, who had somehow made an impact on the person I had become to that point. One of the people that stood out to me was a social worker. To that point I did not know much about the social work profession, but I began to research what it meant to be a social worker, who could make the same kind of difference in people's lives as that person did for me. That was the beginning of the journey that led me to this enriching yet challenging profession.
Sometimes I believe it is important to look back to your roots, to re-examine the steps that have led you on your own life's journey. It can be eye-opening, it can be a good reminder--it may even be a good motivator, inspiring you all over again. That is why this week I share with you part of my story. And I would be interested in hearing yours. It would be interesting to hear about the steps that led each of us to this place. So the question of the week is: what led you to become a social worker? How has that choice helped form the person you are today? |
