A question for some discussion
I wonder how other SW's are handling this; the ethical dilemas that come up in church life: our pastor would like to have some social programs at church-like parenting classes, divorce recovery ect. I work at Child Protection Services. I am able to teach the classes; Ihave taught them before at work in a professinal capacity; however, they will be marketed to folks who very well could be or have been clients in the past. I have told the pastor he cannot use my name or that I work at CPS in the ads for these classes. My husband is an elder and we enjoy giving Bible studies; but the last two folks referred to us we have had to ask others to take without explanation because they had been past clients-and of course, I cannot tell folk why I can't study with this or that person, only that it is someone I can't work with: another example, recently a presently open client came and I had to pretty firmly set a boundary with her. One of our greeters saw me and I was berated for doing so - again, all I could say was I could not help with this person. Of lately it almost seems like I am besieged-how do others handle this? How strong is pastoral confidentiality? Does anyone havew suggestions on how to handle the clients who show up at church and want to discuss their case? |
